Here is my life, so far:

 

 

NAME: AYAD IZZET GHARBAWI.

DATE OF BIRTH: July 26, 1964.

PLACE OF BIRTH: BAGHDAD, IRAQ.

NATIONALITY: UK Citizen.

CHILDREN: 5.

 

 

·         1964-69: Born in Baghdad, Iraq.

·         1969-75: Lived in Beirut, Lebanon.

·         1975-82: Lived in London, England.

·         1981: Passed my GCSE’s, which in Syria are called the Baccalaureate.

·         1982-86: BA Degree from Tufts University, Medford, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. BA Degree in History.

·         1987: Accepted at the New York School of Visual Arts, New York, for Painting. I was intensely bored with the Academia, professors, students and the curricula and so I happily left.

·         1987-89: MA Degree from Boston University, Boston, Mass., USA. MA Degree in International Relations.

·         1989: Accepted at the London School of Economics for the MPhil/PhD Programme. I left LSE because I did not like its teaching methods at all.

·         1990-91: Graduate MA Credits from New York University, in Middle Eastern Studies Programme, New York.

·         1991-2004: Lived in London and Walton On Thames, Surrey, England.

·         2004-Present: Living in Damascus, Syria.

 

 

WORK:

 

 

ART: I have had several galleries in London and Boston for my oil on canvas, expressionist-style paintings. In general, I paint women from my imagination (without models). The artists that have influenced me the most are van Gogh and Egon Schiele.

POETRY: I’ve had several of my poems published, and I’ve had a book of poetry published in 1996, entitled, ‘When Elegance Weeps’. The latter has been translated into Arabic and published here in Syria.

JOURNALISM: I’ve worked as a journalist for several newspapers, and since I came here to Syria, I’ve written for various newspapers, including Syria Times, Tishreen and Al Baath.

NON-FICTION BOOKS: I’ve written a book, entitled ‘Are We Happy?’, which has also been translated into Arabic and published in Syria, under Dar Tlass Publishing House. It is a critique of the self-proclaimed ‘superior’ Western Civilisation. The book analyses how Western Civilisation is a degrading, corrupting ‘culture’ that ultimately causes men, women and children to suffer from all types and varieties of mental problems.

CONSCIOUSNESS STUDIES: I write scientific manuscripts on the subject of what the definition of Consciousness is; what the ‘I’, ‘Mind’ and the ‘Self’ is, and, ultimately leading to studies on the Constituents of the Mind. These studies are intimately connected to Quantum Physics and their implications. I have employed novel notations in order to facilitate our understanding of this subject.

 

FICTION BOOKS: I have written a novel, entitled ‘The Story of Sara’, which is soon to be published. The story is about how Western society gradually destroys, degrades and corrupts human morality, compassion, decency and ultimately peace of mind.

 

INVOLVED: I was very much interested in the plight of the surviving British First World War Veterans - the First World War Veterans Association. I would go to visit them and give them presents, listen to them, photograph them and video interviews with them as they recalled their lives.

 

INTERESTS: Passionate animal lover; I have lions, wolves, hyenas, crocodiles, bears in my farm, where I take care of them. Guitar player (acoustic).
